Ingredients
4 medium ripe tomatoes, finely diced1 large white onion, finely chopped
2-3 green chile peppers, finely chopped (adjust according to heat preference)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 teaspoon iodized salt (adjust to taste)
1/2 fresh squeezed lemon
Instructions
Wash the tomatoes, onion, chile peppers, and cilantro thoroughly. Finely dice the tomatoes and onion. Chop the green chile peppers and cilantro finely. For a milder salsa, you can remove the seeds and membranes from the chile peppers. In a large bowl, mix together the diced tomatoes (with any juice), chopped onion, green chile peppers, and cilantro.Add the salt and lemon juice to the mixture. Stir well to combine everything evenly.
Allow the salsa to sit for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature. This resting period allows the flavors to meld together. Taste the salsa and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You might want to add more salt or adjust the amount of citric acid depending on your preference.
Transfer the salsa into a serving bowl. It can be served immediately or refrigerated for a few hours to enhance the flavors further.
For a chunkier salsa, chop the vegetables more coarsely. For a smoother salsa, you can pulse the ingredients a few times in a food processor. You can also adjust the number of chile peppers based on your heat preference. You can also use different types of chiles for varying flavors and heat levels.
